Doesn’t link with my credit union so can’t use most of the features advertised. It says it will but whenever I try there is a “problem. Please try again later.” I’ve been trying for 3 weeks. When I contacted support (after some frustrating and counter-intuitive discussions with a Bot) they told me there was a temporary outage with my credit union and to try again in a week. Obviously disappointed and finding this app totally useless I deleted my account. It says all my data and account details will be deleted. Yet when I attempt to re-sign in and confirm my account has been deleted it simply just re-signs me in and all my data is still there and it hasn’t been deleted at all. I don’t know why so many people are giving this good reviews. Perhaps they haven’t used it properly but I was very keen to use empower that I’d already decided I would. I decided to just do some simple tests to put my mind at ease about using a new company and they failed all of those tests: doesn’t link with external accounts as advertised, time wasting bots are the customer support, solutions eventually offered are totally inadequate and when I made my decision that this “bank” (its really a tech company) wasn’t for me I had to repeatedly email and message them to actually manually delete my account (even though the app tells you you can do it from their main menu). New companies will improve the banking experience in the near future. Empower is not one of those.

I love the app but there are other things that really need work let’s go from the good to the bad customer service once they respond do typically seem to understand your problem and WANT to help you. The card works well and there are plenty of fee free ATM option which is a plus when looking at app based banking changing the app pin or updating personal information is a huge hassle a simple two step verification system could bypass the app pin all together with an option to not be challenged more than once a week. Where things went wrong.. I lost my card I reported it to support the same night it happened and my card was shut off the next day GREAT this is what should happen. Then in order to dispute they sent me forms to fill out which is technically unnecessary but a common practice in the banking industry.. I waited the 10 days as outlined in FTC regulation for bank error resolution I even sent support a direct link to the regulation since they are newer and may not have been aware of REG E compliance. I keep getting the response that the “investigation” takes times as a former compliance auditor I know that the investigation was completed the second I sent in written verification it’s a lost card claim there isn’t a lot to be investigated and not much can be done other than refunding the money to the consumer and issuing a chargeback to the merchant. Before this issue support was always quick to respond and could generally help with anything I needed because of this issue I am considering going back to my traditional bank I never had to deal with them for a lost or stolen card but I know they would at the very least comply with federal banking regulations. Now at 21 days. Emails and chats go completely ignored I found a phone number for them. No one answers that either. Fairly sure this is at least partially a scam.

I downloaded the app a few weeks ago I connected all my banks so that I can manage my finances. I transferred money from my cash app in order to fund the account. I recently got a new phone so when I went to log in it ask phone number or email I put that in then it ask for app pin now I’m locked out. The customer service is only by email so I wait hours for a response. Then I’m asked to send a photo of my license via email instead of through the app. I don’t trust sending my personal info through a unsecured account. I signed up with this email why can’t you send a reset link to my email like every other bank or have security questions. Once I get my money out I’m closing this account ASAP.

It's irresponsible that customer service in 2019 takes a minimum of 12 hours to respond. I contacted Empower 10 days after opening my account because I hadn't received the debit card. They sent me a debit card after contacting them multiple times over 4 weeks. The majority of the responses were automated, "you will receive your debit card in 7-10 days of account opening." Nope, I definitely did not. I was also told I could fund the account and use the debit card number listed before receiving the physical card. That proved false as well. I finally received the card with a letter telling me the card was activated and ready for use. I tried twice to add the card to Apple Pay which did not work. I added another card of mine to make sure I wasn't having issues with Apple Pay. I contacted Empower and was told I had to activate my card. I inquired why would I need to do that as I received a letter stating the card was active. Customer service representative, Sacandar, replied that "I had deactivated my card". I responded that I did not. I needed to select "more" in the app to reactivate the card. "more" wasn't an option in my app. It hadn't been an option when the account was opened. I'd tried. Countless times. After having a nasty conversation with Sacandar, he FINALLY activated the card. That's all he had to do from the first email stating, "my debit card isn't working and I am not able to add money to my checking account. I have funded the savings with no issue". Instead, several emails were sent over a day long period. Why is this even necessary? I happily closed my account after trying to communicate with Empower for 6 weeks. Their customer service is unhelpful and unprofessional. If I want cashback with no minimum balance requirements, I'll try Discover's debit card. Empower is horrible and not ready to be a financial institution.

Allows transfers with smaller limits. As an online bank with no check deposit it should support higher limits. As a bank it should still evolve, no deposit check, bill pay, checks. Transfers can take 3 business days to complete but sometimes higher than that. Even though they were giving boost intially it was tough to transfer money into the account. Now I will have hard time taking out the money. They don't even give an official withdrawal check for savings Interest rates are good, great during the referral period, I guess compounded and paid daily in the statement, couldn't verify as I can't download it on iPhone, looks like a bug. Mentioned it to support, wasn't fixed yet. Other features are great except for minor bugs. Transactions sometimes were showing duplicate and pending. Other accounts don't refresh often sometimes even Weeks, so it doesn't help to know your current balances. Used it for over a month the AI suggestions just started but I just have common basic subscriptions. Hope they get better and become a complete bank and introduce basic stuff and fix all issues The statement share option is now visible and I got my Feb statements but it is not able to load or share until loaded. There are decent number of transactions in it
